In this life, you can either be a square or a trapezoid. The choice is yours. But for Washington D.C. singer-songwriter Nico Zaca: there is no option but to stand out. A classically-trained guitarist, Nico Zaca picked up the guitar at age 6 as a way of regaining eye-hand coordination after shattering his arm impersonating Spider-Man. He began writing his songs shortly thereafter, his first ever-song being “Blue Ninja”, a song about a ninja who is blue. Fast-forward 17 years later, Nico Zaca’s sophisticated and harmonic soundscapes are unlike any other. Building off a foundation of intricate guitar ensemble arrangements, Zaca weaves his affinity for industrial sounds and glitchy electronica with his signature poignant and existential lyricism. The result? Penning songs that are both modern and timeless. In a society that is fixated on becoming more cyber cyber cyber, Nico Zaca manages to find the warmth of the ephemeral human experience in the nooks and crannies of the digital age. To him, life is both extremely sacred and at the same time, way too silly and absurd to take it toooo seriously. We live one time and we die one time, and while he’s alive, Nico Zaca will never hesitate to tell you how he’s really feeling.
